Career Workshops at NVvI Spring meeting

During the NVvI Spring Meeting, Young NVvI organises career workshops to educate and inform young immunologists of careers outside academic research. We invite several panellists working in a profession outside the classic academic career trajectory. After a short introduction by the panellists about their career path and current role, young immunologists in the audience can ask their burning questions during the Q&A.

Young NVvI at NVvI Annual Meeting

At the NVvI Annual Meeting, Young NVvI plays an active role in various activities. We host networking events where, alongside their peers, young researchers can meet invited guests at different stages of their academic careers. We also participate in abstract selection and in the evaluation and grading of scientific posters. And we are represented in the committees that select the Van Bekkum Thesis Award Winner and the Bright Spark in Immunology.

2025

We hosted a lunch session titled ″Analysis of single-cell data, from data processing to clustering and autoencoders: lessons learned by a wet-lab biologist″. We invited Prof. Marijn Nawijn (UMC Groningen) who introduced the various steps of single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis, the methods used and the numerous mistakes that can occur in analysing big data.

2024

We hosted an informal networking event over drinks, where young researchers had the opportunity to engage with invited guests from various career stages. Our speakers included Wilianne Hoepel (Veni, LUMC) and Alsya Affandi (Veni, AUMC) on personal grants, Steven Koetzier (medical immunologist in training, MUMC+) on clinical careers, Vincent van Unen (LUMC) on international research experience, and Balthasar Heesters (UU) as a young PI.
