Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within the Dutch Society for Immunology (NVVI)
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are core values of the Dutch Society for Immunology (NVVI). They help ensure that everyone is treated fairly and has equal access to opportunities, regardless of their background or personal characteristics. Our aim is to reduce bias and prevent discrimination. This commitment aligns with international standards and laws like the Equality Act 2010, which outlines protected characteristics.
At NVVI, we believe that having a wide range of students, researchers, and professionals strengthens our field. Diversity brings fresh ideas, sparks innovation, and broadens our thinking. Supporting EDI isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s our responsibility as a scientific community. As a Society, we welcome suggestions from everyone to help improve our EDI practices.
Our Commitment to EDI in Practice
As an academic and professional society, we work to embed EDI into all areas of our activities. Here are some of the ways we’re doing that:
Diverse Recruitment for Boards and Committees
We actively encourage people from different backgrounds to apply for leadership roles. Our recruitment process is built around EDI principles, starting from the very first contact. We want all potential members to feel welcomed and understand that inclusivity matters to us. To support this, we have implemented a formal application procedure.
Fostering Belonging and culture
Creating a sense of belonging is key. We want everyone in our community to feel respected and supported, no matter their role or background.
NVVI meetings and events
EDI principles are reflected in the organization of our meetings and conferences, where we continue to pursue diversity.
