Call for members to contribute to a NVVI vision on animal-research and alternatives
On December 14, 2023, NCAD (Nationaal Comité Advies Dierproeven beleid) released an ambition statement (Streefbeeld) on animal-free innovations in the field of Immunology. This brief statement outlines the possibilities and barriers in the transition from the use of laboratory animals to animal-free research while simultaneously envisioning a potential path towards this transition. So far, the Dutch Society for Immunology (DSI) has not participated in this initiative.
The board of the DSI fully supports initiatives to develop and implement alternative human models for immunological research while maintaining equal or improving research quality. However, it is pivotal that such statements reflect accurate viewpoints of all immunologists involved. Thereto, we aim to formulate an NVVI vision on the promising possibilities and innovations, as well as the current limitations and constraints associated with the transition to animal-free research in the immunological research domain.
To provide a platform for discussions and allow all members of our society to contribute, we herewith invite members of our society to contribute to the formulation of an NVVI vision on this matter.
