The Dutch Society for Immunology (NVVI) actively promotes and supports:

Excellence in immunological research, immunodiagnostic procedures and clinical immunological practice in the Netherlands. High quality of analyses of immunological parameters used in health care (for diagnostic purposes)
The societal position of the professional immunologist in all disciplines.

To achieve this, the NVVI organizes scientific meetings, maintains international contacts and has established a number of committees that regulate scientific, laboratory and clinical standards in immunology. The NVVI strives to provide input to national and international policies with the objective to strengthen the future of immunology in all disciplines.

Description: Teaching assignment
You will take on a teaching assignment in the Medicine and/or Biomedical Sciences programmes (bachelor and master level). The candidate is expected to take on coordination tasks related to the organisation of the relevant programme, such as immunology, endocrine system, experimental design and grant writing. Participation in educational innovation initiatives is also expected.
Research assignment
You will develop an independent translational research programme within immunology, closely aligned with the areas of expertise of BIOMED.

The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences contributes to sustainable solutions for health‑related issues in the civic Hasselt University. The faculty focuses on excellence in education and research and connects with society through strong collaboration with our partners. Research is conducted within the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED) of UHasselt. At BIOMED, high‑level multidisciplinary research is carried out to stimulate progress in the human life sciences. Using high‑end technology, insights are gained in three areas of expertise: (neuro)immunology, neuroscience and cardiometabolic disorders. BIOMED aims to translate new scientific discoveries into applications that contribute to a healthy society, in line with UHasselt’s civic ambition. You will become a member of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences in the Department of Immunology and Infection. As a member of the department, you work at the intersection of research, education and societal progress.

Your talents

You hold a Ph.D. in (bio)medical science, biology, pharmacy, or bioengineering (or an equivalent field).
You have an excellent academic track record with publications in high‑quality international scientific journals in the field of translational immunology.

You have at least 3 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience in the specific research domain and demonstrable experience in applying for external (inter)national research funding.

You have a good understanding of the latest trends and developments in the research domain of immunological disorders.

You have experience supervising PhD students, technicians and/or master’s students. You possess the necessary qualities to lead a research group.

You can function within a multidisciplinary research team.

Complementarity with the existing research expertise within the department is an asset.
You have a demonstrable international research network in the relevant domain.

International mobility is an advantage.

Experience with academic teaching is a major asset. You enjoy teaching and convey course content enthusiastically to your students.

Dutch is the administrative language of Hasselt University. This implies that at the time of your appointment or within 5 years after your appointment as a member of the tenured academic staff, you must be able to demonstrate that your knowledge of Dutch is at least at CEFR level B2. If this is not yet the case at the time of your appointment, we offer you language lessons as support. You have a maximum of 5 years to achieve the required level.
When taking up a teaching assignment as coordinating lecturer or co-lecturer, you must always be able to demonstrate mastery of the language of instruction of the program component at CEFR level C1. Prior to this, Hasselt University can also support you in acquiring the required language skills.
Our offer for you

We offer an appointment at the rank of lecturer, in a temporary tenure track position for a period of five years. This period results in an immediate permanent appointment at the rank of senior lecturer, if the university board evaluates the performance of the candidate positively based on predetermined and communicated evaluation criteria. Call for proposals for innovative research on lymphoma

Lymph&Co is happy to announce two calls for 2026.

1. Call for research proposals 2026

The Lymph&Co Foundation intends to fund one research project in 2026.

There will be a two-stage submission procedure for applications: pre-proposals and full proposals. The call opens on February 2. The deadline for submitting the pre-proposals is 8April 2026. The Scientific Board of Lymph&Co will carry out a scientific evaluation according to specific evaluation criteria. Based on this evaluation, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal (deadline for full proposals: 6 August 2026).

2. Paul Fentener van Vlissingen Fellowship (only for researchers residing in the Netherlands)

The fellowship supports the opportunity for a talented young researcher (below the age of 40 years and within 6 years of obtaining his/her PhD) to visit an internationally renowned research group in the field of lymphoma. The fellowship is intended to further the career of young researchers in basic, translational or clinical research residing in the Netherlands. The application should be supported by a recommendation letter from the head of the department the applicant is currently working. In addition, a letter of acceptance by the head of the host department is required and hosting teams are invited to submit their joint nomination together using the Paul Fentener van Vlissingen Lymphoma Fellowship application form available on the Lymph&Co website.

Deadline: 6 August 2026.
